In order to educate the public on plastic pollution and waste segregation practices, Kohima Smart City is laying strong hands onto its collaboration with the environment advocacy group Green Team Kohima by visiting government schools in Kohima. The joint chief executive officer of the Kohima Smart City issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about a visit to schools in the town recently.
According to the press release sent out by the joint chief executive officer of the Kohima Smart City, the programme is part of the ‘100 days Smart City campaign on sanitation,’ updates stated. Two teams comprising Smart City officials and Green Team Kohima members visited the government middle school at Daklane and the government middle school at Aradura Lerie Chazou on the Sep. 9, the press release stated.
The event comprised of short talks about plastic pollution and waste management. They conducted hands-on demonstration in waste segregation, the organizers stated. Student’s school notice boards were all hoarded with posters of Naga characters and slogans about cleanliness and environment health.
Further, a visual and interactive presentation was presented at the government middle school of Daklane ‘which was met with enthusiastic participation from the students.’ Short movie clips about the ‘Anti Plastic Man’ produced by the dept. of IPR and local comedy group Dreamz Unlimited were also shown during the event.
“The visiting teams reported of clean school compounds, well behaved enthusiastic students and positive feedbacks from teachers in both the government schools. The teams will be visiting 10 more schools over the next few days,” the organisers stated.
