Tata Motors rolls Out Ultra EV Buses to Jammu Smart City

Tata Motors, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, has made a significant stride in promoting eco-friendly transportation by delivering Ultra EV air-conditioned electric buses to Jammu Smart City through TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K), a subsidiary of the Tata Motors Group.

Under the leadership of the Housing and Urban Development Department of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, this initiative aims to establish an environmentally sustainable public transportation system in Jammu. The delivery of these electric buses marks a significant step in fulfilling a larger order to supply, maintain, and operate 100 electric buses each in Srinagar and Jammu over a period of 12 years for the Jammu and Srinagar Smart City projects.

The fleet’s inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Amit Shah, the Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Government of India, alongside Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Heavy Industries, Government of India, and Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Distinguished attendees included Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Gulam Ali Khatana, Ajay Bhalla (IAS), Home Secretary Government of India, Atal Dulloo (IAS), Chief Secretary Jammu and Kashmir, Mandeep Kaur (IAS), Commissioner Secretary H&UDD, J&K, along with other Administrative Secretaries, and delegates from the Government of J&K, Municipal Corporation Jammu, Jammu Smart City, and representatives from Tata Motors.

Rahul Yadav (IAS), CEO of Jammu Smart City, expressed his commitment to enhancing transportation in Jammu through the introduction of electric buses. He emphasised the goal of improving mass mobility, safety, sustainability, and convenience for commuters, while also reducing the city’s carbon footprint and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.

Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Chairman of TML Smart City Mobility Solutions (J&K), lauded the flag-off of electric buses in Jammu, following the recent commencement of electric bus operations in Srinagar. He highlighted Tata Motors’ pioneering role in the electric mobility sector and its dedication to tailoring innovative solutions to India’s unique transportation needs.

Tata Motors has already delivered over 1,500 e-buses to various cities across India, collectively covering more than 10 crore kilometers with an uptime exceeding 95%.
