
In a commendable recognition of its pioneering efforts, Jammu Smart City has been lauded by the Central Government through the Smart City Mission for its outstanding e-mobility project. This project, characterized by the successful operation of e-autos and e-rickshaws, has received accolades under the urban environment category of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC), held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Organized under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ Smart Cities Mission, the ISAC aims to celebrate and reward cities, projects, and innovative ideas that champion sustainable development within the realm of 100 smart cities across India.
Jammu Smart City secured the third position in the highly competitive Urban Environment Project category, with the top positions claimed by Indore and Shivamogga (Karnataka), as announced by officials.
A total of 75 proposals from 48 cities vied for recognition in these prestigious awards. The CEO of Jammu Smart City Limited, Rahul Yadav, had the honor of receiving the award from the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Hardeep Singh Puri, during the event.
This accolade underscores Jammu Smart City Limited’s resolute commitment to advancing innovation in urban mobility and contributing to a more environmentally conscious and sustainable urban landscape on a national scale, officials have stated.
The e-Mobility project spearheaded by Jammu Smart City addresses pressing urban challenges, including traffic congestion, pollution, and limited transportation options. According to officials, the e-autos and e-rickshaws featured in this initiative provide emission-free transportation with a positive environmental impact. These electric vehicles stand out for their cost-effective operational efficiency, earning them the preference of both passengers and drivers.
During the ceremony, President Murmu emphasized the significance of preparing for the future, noting that more than 50 percent of the population is projected to reside in urban areas by 2047. Furthermore, cities’ total contribution to GDP is expected to exceed 80 percent by that time. She stressed the importance of charting a forward-looking roadmap that takes into account the rising aspirations and needs of cities and their residents.
