Panaji selected among Top 18 under CITIIS 2.0 Challenge

Panaji Smart City

The Panaji Smart City initiative has been shortlisted in the CITIIS 2.0 Challenge, placing among the top 18 winning cities from a pool of 100 smart cities. This national endeavour aims to foster inventive and sustainable urban development.

The CITIIS 2.0 Challenge, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the French Development Agency (AFD), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the European Union (EU), and the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), provides substantial financial and technical support to winning cities.

Initiated in November 2023 by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, CITIIS 2.0 aims to advance climate action through a circular economy approach to integrated waste management.

The aim is to transform the city into a landfill-free environment and to instigate a shift in mindset from the traditional ‘not in my backyard’ to the ‘yes, in my backyard (YIMBY)’ perspective by encouraging citizens to segregate and manage waste at its source. The city is committed to enhancing its 16-way segregation initiative while implementing a distinctive waste purchase model to achieve comprehensive treatment coverage.
