Smart Cities Mission completes 8 year, Nation celebrates its achievements

The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, recently celebrated the completion of eight years of Smart Cities mission and highlighted its achievements.

In his tweet, Minister Puri congratulated the people and emphasised that the Smart City Mission is a significant project in the urban sector. The total project size is 1,80,000 crore rupees, indicating the scale and investment involved in this mission.

According to the Minister, more than 5800 projects have been completed under the Smart City Mission, resulting in transformative changes in urban spaces. These projects have focused on enhancing the ease of living for citizens across the country.

The Smart Cities Mission, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015, is a flagship urban sector initiative aimed at promoting cities that provide essential infrastructure and improve the quality of life for their citizens.

The primary objective of the Smart Cities Mission is to utilise smart solutions to create cities that offer core infrastructure, ensure a decent quality of life, and promote a clean and sustainable environment. The mission aims to leverage technology and innovation to improve various aspects of urban life, including infrastructure development, transportation, waste management, energy efficiency, and public services.
