Visakhapatnam municipal schools engage students with smart classroomsIn the smart classrooms of Visakhapatnam municipal schools, each student is provided with a Chromebook featuring G Suite.

This initiative of Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL) and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has transformed the learning experience of young students in the city.

The project started in 2017 with six schools and now 31 schools in the city have smart classrooms. These were introduced by GCMC at a cost of around Rs 7 crore under the Smart Campus initiative in the first phase of Vizag Smart City project. The civic authority has also brought in CS First in these classrooms, which is an introductory computer science curriculum.

According to reports, the classrooms are being used for a variety of purposes, including online exams/assessments, posting announcements, conducting essay-writing competitions, giving feedback on learning, notes and material sharing.

Also, the classrooms have been set up based on the strength of the schools. For instance, a school with a strength of 130 students has just one digital classroom but a school with a strength of over 800 students has 15 digital classrooms.
