Mayor Inaugurates Jeppu Enclave Developed Under Smart City Mission

Jeppu Enclave

Mayor Manoj Kumar officially inaugurated the Jeppu Enclave in Mangaluru on Sunday, a newly developed infrastructure project undertaken by Mangaluru Smart City Ltd. (MSCL) under the Smart City Mission. The project, completed at a cost of ₹5.85 crore, includes a Primary Health Centre (PHC), a veterinary hospital, eight residential flats for Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) employees, a dedicated bus bay, and a walking path.

Key Infrastructure Developments

The enclave aims to enhance urban facilities and improve public services in the area. According to Mangaladevi ward councillor and former Mayor Premanand Shetty, the newly constructed bus bay will serve as a hub for city buses operating to and from Mangaladevi Temple. Currently, these buses operate from the temple’s entrance, contributing to congestion in the vicinity. The MCC will soon convene discussions with city police, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), and bus operators to streamline transportation and ease traffic flow in front of the temple.

Upgraded Healthcare Facilities

The Jeppu PHC, which has been a crucial healthcare provider for the local community, will soon commence operations from the newly built facility. In collaboration with Father Muller Medical College (FMMC), the PHC is set to resume maternity services within the next 15 days. Additionally, through a partnership with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Srinivas University will introduce physiotherapy and dental treatment services at the PHC within the next 10 days.

Spanning 1,200 square meters, the PHC is equipped with allopathy, homeopathy, and physiotherapy sections on the ground floor. It also includes a dental clinic, a laboratory, an emergency ward, a record room, consultation rooms, a pharmacy, and a waiting hall. The first floor is dedicated to maternity and sterilization services, a dialysis unit, surgical facilities, and patient wards.

Veterinary Hospital and Residential Quarters

The newly established veterinary hospital covers an area of 240 square meters and features an operation theatre, a pharmacy, treatment sections for domestic animals, a cattle care unit, and a doctor’s consultation room. In a bid to improve residential amenities for municipal staff, the enclave also includes eight two-bedroom flats allocated to B and C group employees of the MCC. Plans are underway to construct an additional 12 flats in the area.

Enhanced Public Transport Facilities

To further improve urban mobility, the enclave houses a 110-meter-long and 11-meter-wide bus bay, which will serve as a designated point for city buses. The initiative aims to facilitate smoother transit operations while reducing congestion in surrounding areas.
