‘Housing for All’ to be completed by 2019, says Union Minister

The Union Government is likely to achieve its target under “Housing for All” scheme by the middle of 2019, said the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

“We are sanctioning 3-5 lakh houses every month,” said Puri adding the Government has estimated total housing shortage of 1.2 crore.

So far, the Government has sanctioned the construction of 47.5 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Of the total sanctioned houses, 27 lakh houses have been grounded and construction of eight lakh houses has been completed, the minister said.

With a total investment approval of Rs 2.68 lakh crore for the scheme, the Central Government’s share is of Rs 73,460 crore

Around 1.65 lakh beneficiaries under economically weaker sections and middle-income groups have already availed housing loans under the Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme. The interest subsidy released by central nodal agencies is Rs 3,559 crore.

29 states have notified the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act – RERA, 2016. Under the act, 10 states have established permanent regulatory authorities and rest 19 have set-up interim authorities. In addition to this, Six States have established the regular appellate tribunals whereas 15 have appointed interim appellate tribunals under the Act.

21 states have fully operational web portals for enabling online registration of real estate projects. The Government has also set-up a Central Advisory Council for RERA under the chairmanship of Puri.
