Dehradun city’s Rajpur Road has been marked for renovation and will be turned into a “smart road’ soon. Dehradun Smart City Limited has undertaken the project under the Smart Road scheme, which will commence in November and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

With an estimated budget of about Rs 22 crores, the project includes placing plants along the road, installing LED street lights and a multi-utility duct for telephone and electricity cables, among others. After Rajpur Road, other stretches of the state capital will also undergo similar renovations.

As per reports, a 1.8 km stretch of Rajpur Road will be made smart. Similarly, a 2.9 km stretch of EC Road, 1.8 km of Chakrata Road and 1.5 km of Haridwar Road will be turned into smart roads.

Three committees — Steering Committee, Coordination Committee and Standard Operating Procedure Committee — have also been set up to monitor this project which will be carried out in full coordination with the city’s police department.

According to Ashish Srivastava, CEO of Dehradun Smart City Limited, great emphasis has been put on completing the project within the designated time-frame.
