Vendors were moved from Paltan Bazaar, Dehradun, during an anti-encroachment drive under the Smart City Mission. The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) is planning to allot space to the affected sellers in the market.

DMC officials made a list of 28 hawkers and have given assurance that they will come up with something for them.

Cobblers were not included in the list but the DMC officials have assured that they will come up with some solution.

Dehradun Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama was quoted as saying, “We are planning a vending zone for the roadside traders in Paltan Bazaar, particularly near the Ambedkar Park. The process is still in early stages and a lot of ground work needs to be done for the same. The vending zone will be created under the Smart City mission ensuring that there is no room for encroachment. Permanent counters, just like the ones in Nehru Colony, are a possibility. We will come up with something soon.”
