The station building will carry the theme of the famous Dandi March or the salt movement led by Mahatma Gandhi during the Independence struggle of India. The plan of Sabarmati Station redevelopment consists of revamping and connecting the existing two stations namely, the Sabarmati Junction station – Broad Gauge (SBT-BT) and Sabarmati station – Meter Gauge (SBI-MG) for easier passenger movement.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed bullet train, which is being developed by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), will be passing through the two stations. As per IRSDC, the two stations will be integrated with each other in a way that such integration will have a passage for accessing the high speed bullet train corridor.

“On December 20, 2019, the in-principle approval for inviting the request for quotation (RFQ) for the redevelopment of the Sabarmati station was granted under the PPP mode by the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC),” said S K Lohia, Managing Director, CEO of IRSDC.

The Sabarmati station redevelopment with a site area of 19,55,500 square meters has been proposed to the tune of Rs 125 crore. The redeveloped station area will also have access to the new metro stations being built nearby for easy commuting between Sabarmati railway stations to metro stations.

The redeveloped area will have passenger-friendly facilities such as retail shops, high quality waiting rooms, beverage stalls, etc as well as Divyang-friendly zones for the differently-abled passengers.
