Collector A. Annadurai urged civic body officials to encourage business establishments in the town to adopt waste water recycling in a meeting held on Tuesday.

He also directed officials to initiate steps to encourage and ensure compliance on the part of hotels, boarding and lodging houses, commercial complexes and other business establishments, where considerable amount of water is used on a daily basis, with the recycling intiative.

Chairing a meeting at Thanjavur Corporation to review the progress of Smart City projects, under which rejuvenation of water bodies within the Corporation domain was also taken up.

Annadurai directed town planning wing officials not to grant plan approvals in case rainwater harvesting provision is not there.

Earlier, he also inspected the ongoing infrastructure development works implemented by the civic body at Pookkollai in Malligai Nagar, opposite to Thanjavur Medical College, and the carriageway widening work of Old Thiruvaiyaru Road and bridge construction work across the Vadavaru.

Interacting with residents of Malligai Nagar, Annadurai enquired about drinking water distribution and streetlighting facilities in the area. He has also directed the civic body officials to allot a phone number to receive public grievances relating to drinking water distribution and other basic requirements.

The Collector also reviewed progress of planting of one lakh saplings in the Corporation domain and the works taken up under the Smart City programme.

Corporation Commissioner Janaki Ravindran and senior officials of the Corporation accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
