Punjab FM allocates 650 cr for rejuvenating Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana

Punjab’s Finance Minister, Manpreet Badal has cleared a sum of Rs 650 crore for a project to rejuvenate Buddha Nullah under the budget 2020-21. The budget also includes sewage treatment plants (STPs) and effluent treatment plants near dairy units.

Badal also announced the allocation of Rs 810 crore for smart city projects in Amristar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. Further, a sum of Rs 103 crore has been allocated for Swachh Bharat Mission and Rs 25 crore for proper handling the issue of stray cattle. Moreover, Ludhiana gets  Rs 104 crore to improve its air quality by implementing pollution curbing measures, improvement of groundwater table and more such measures.

On the clearance of funds for Buddha Nullah, Jai Prakash, a senior Congress councilor said, every year in the rainy season the drain overflows and the water enters houses. This project is expected to eradicate this problem and improve the situation for not only the areas lying alongside the drain but also the complete Malwa belt up to Rajasthan.

While, Sanjay Talwar, a Congress MLA said that Buddha Nullah project is one of the major projects in Punjab and its rejuvenation will be carried out in phases. Rs 650 crore for the first phase have been allocated.
