MP Skill Development Board to add Smart City and Advanced Technology Courses to ITIs

MP Skill Development Board

In a move aimed at enhancing skill development and employment opportunities, the Madhya Pradesh Skill Development and Employment Generation Board is planning the addition of short-term courses focusing on smart city development and advanced technologies to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Furthermore, the board is also considering introducing trades related to the Internet of Things (IoT) at new centers.

Following the success of the pilot project at Ujjain and Bhopal, where the IoT trade garnered full admissions with 40 seats each, the skill development department plans to expand its offerings on technology for the upcoming academic session. The board’s additional CEO, GN Agrawal, expressed that they are currently evaluating the demand from industries and making preparations to launch new trades on advanced technology across multiple ITI centers. The initial trades on IoT and drones have received an encouraging response from students.

Agrawal also emphasized the increasing demand for technically proficient candidates with knowledge of advanced technology in today’s job market, particularly in smart city projects. Consequently, the board is exploring options to introduce courses specifically related to work in smart cities. The inclusion of these trades has become one of the most sought-after skills demanded by companies. The skill development department is actively identifying potential locations within the state’s ITIs to incorporate these new advanced courses.

Meena Lohiya, the training and placement officer at ITI Indore division, acknowledged the significant demand from industries in Indore for skilled and semi-skilled candidates due to its commercial nature. However, due to a shortage of candidates with the required skills, they have been unable to fulfill all the demands from employers. Lohiya believes that the introduction of technical courses will greatly enhance the placement prospects of students in companies.

By integrating courses on smart city development, advanced technologies, and IoT, the state’s Skill Development and Employment Generation Board aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge sought after by industries, thereby increasing employment opportunities and contributing to the overall growth of the state’s workforce.
