Indian Railways deploys 2,600 mobile satellite terminals to improve services

Indian Railways

In a bid to improve timings and safety, the Indian Railways has announced that it has deployed over 2,600 Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) terminals on locomotives under Phase I of Real-Time Train Information System (RTIS).

Indian Railways

RTIS links the Indian locomotives to ISRO satellites. It is the first of its kind Satellite-based train tracking system. It is expected that with RTIS the network efficiency, punctuality, and data generation will improve the operations of Indian Railways.

Saankhya Labs is the Satcom Technology for BEL in the RITS project. This Satellite-based tracking system is basically used for getting the train movement data, from their arrival, departure to the current running-status.

The trains hauled by RTIS enabled locomotives to get tracked and plotted automatically in the Control Office Application (COA) at the Central Control office.
