UAE telecom giant du has signed a strategic agreement with Nokia and the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP) to develop a plethora of smart city services for the Emirate of Sharjah.

Under the agreement, du, Nokia, and SRTIP will undertake ‘proofs of concept’ and a series of innovations to enhance Sharjah’s digital transformation roadmap. This includes building up smart cities, building capacity for 5G applications in the field of autonomous driving, Internet of Things (IoT), and a Luxturrim5G ecosystem powered by Nokia Bell Labs at SRTIP premises.

The consortium will also collaborate with Business Finland to introduce the latest key start-ups in the Industry 4.0 area under the framework of digital transformation. Working with Nokia, the partners will also set up ‘proof of concept’ for 5G-based hologram applications.
