Delhi’s first mega skywalk to come up at ITO by 2018

ITO DelhiThe Public Works Department (PWD) has started construction work of Delhi’s first mega skywalk at ITO.

“We have started constructing the foundation of a staircase near the Institute of Archaeology. It will be one of the entry exit points to the skywalk. Initially, the pace of construction work is slow but we will expedite it,” an official associated with the project said.

Being built to connect heavy traffic roads, the skywalk will have a foot overbridge (FoB) with canopies, food shops and areas for pedestrians to sit. There will be different points through which  pedestrians can use the skywalk.

With an estimated cost  Rs 41 crore, the Central government will bear 80 per cent cost of the project and 20 per cent Delhi Government.

It will connect Sikandra Road, Mathura Road, Tilak Marg and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg with Pragati Maidan and ITO Metro stations and Supreme Court.

The FoB will be created at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg near Hans Bhawan.
