Agra Smart City Private Limited to develop smart roads in old Agra

In a project undertaken by the Agra Smart City Private Limited, roads of old Agra are set to get a facelift. In a bid to get rid of clogged and congested road, the old Agra roads will be reconstructed with two separate lanes for two wheelers and four wheelers.

The other changes that are planned within the project include footpaths and parking spaces. The electric poles will be removed and the overhead wires will be transferred underground.

According to Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC), some other initiatives taken to revamp the old Agra roads include door to door garbage collection and solid waste management system, intelligent traffic management system (ITMS), installation of traffic signals and redesigning of 28 road intersections among others.

In order to develop smart road network, high-mast LED lights will be installed in the areas of Jama Masjid road, Kinari Bazaar, Daresi road, Lohar Gali and Rawatpara.

According to AMC, there will be one way clockwise traffic movement from Bijli Ghar to trans-Yamuna road via Agra fort station. The other route is from Bijli Ghar to Daresi via Jama Masjid. There is a proposed parking space on one side of the Daresi road. A two-metre broad pathway will be developed for pedestrians.

The project will commence from July 2019 and is likely to be completed by 2022. The budget allocated for this project is Rs 1,000 crore.
