The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDL), the Special Public Vehicle for Aurangabad Smart City project has taken up a project to develop 150 smart bus shelters and 41 new buses.

According to Nipun Vinayak, ASCDL CEO and Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Commissioner, 81 out of 100 buses have arrived in the city.

Vinayak was quoted as saying, “The process of registration of new buses is underway. We are carrying out a route-wise analysis to understand the load factor and frequency requirement based on which a revised schedule will be launched. So far, barring three routes, the load factor has increased in all routes.”

He also stated that upon addition of the new buses, daily, weekly and monthly passes will be made available for the city’s commuters.

According to an ASCDL official, tender for 150 bus shelters has been closed recently and one out of three bidders has been finalised for the project and 150 locations for the shelters have also been identified. The shelters are likely to be completed within the next six months.

The official added that the locations have been selected based on the number of routes, frequency of buses, neibourhood and road type. He also mentioned that bus shelters will be built on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis for a concessionaire period of 15 years.
