Road construction in North East India speeds up

The construction work of NH-31(Bilasipara to Fakirgram) in Assam has been completed under the North Eastern States Roads Investment Programme (NESRIP) which is aided by Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The second project (Barpeta to Kalitakuchi) in Assam and (Garobadha to Dalu, NH-51) in Meghalaya have been completed by more than 50%. As for the remaining projects, progress is at different stages of construction ranging from 10% to 42%, an official statement said.

ADB has approved a loan of $200 million for NESRIP, but the release is on the reimbursement basis after the submission of necessary documents.

As per the North Eastern States Roads Investment Programme, construction of ten roads and some major bridges of a total length of 433.225 km is planned.
