Visakhapatnam Smart City

Projects worth Rs 650 crore will soon be taken up by Visakhapatnam Smart City after it spent Rs 200 crore on projects including smart devices, electric buses and vehicles, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Commissioner M Harinarayanan has said.

Harinarayanan said that GVMC took up several developmental works on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) by utilising $5 million grant it received to do some of the projects in the area.

Development works worth Rs 300 crore will also be taken up after completing the tendering process, the GVMC Commissioner added.

Visakhapatnam Smart City is laying stress on renewable energy, especially solar. A floating solar unit with 2MW capacity has been set up on Mudasarlova lake, while bidding for installing a 3-MW solar unit on Meghadrigedda reservoir has been invited.

Visakhapatnam, popularly known as ‘Vizag’, is the largest City of Andhra Pradesh and is being developed as a smart city under the Government of India’s ‘Smart Cities Mission’.

An Integrated Command and Communication Centre (ICCC) was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu earlier this year to give impetus to the development of Visakhapatnam Smart City.

The ICCC will serve as the centre for integration and convergence of data to monitor various services like RIFD tagging for solid waste management, smart bins and intelligent transport system that include surveillance cameras and panic button and standard operating procedures for various incidents.
