As per the sources from the Highways Department, the work on the road on the Tambaram side was being finished and the Guindy side work has been completed. Moreover, the wearing coat on top will be laid shortly and the entire work will be completed soon, the source added.

The upcoming flyover which is 1.53-km three-lane flyover will connect the traffic from the Tambaram side towards the airport, without any stoppages at the Kundrathur Road, English Electricals and Old Pallavaram Sandhai Road junctions.

The department, in order to facilitate the construction work, strengthened the Old Trunk Road and asked for Cantonment’s permission to lay the Kundrathur Road post removing the encroachments on either side.

The road which was earlier 25 ft wide is now a 40 ft wide road. A major problem was the diversion of traffic, as around 2.25 lakh vehicles ply on GST Road on a daily basis.

The work to develop the facility began in 2016. Post completion, three-lane the flyover will match the one in front of the airport.
