news-4Prime Minister’s ambitious smart city project is all set to implement on ground in Jaipur by Jaipur Smart Mission Limited (JSML).

As part of the smart city development, JSML will initiate two projects of facade work and developing the School of Arts into a museum. Tender for both the projects have been finalised by JSML. “The proposed cost for facade work is Rs 13 crore and approximately Rs 3 crore will be spent on renovation of School of Arts into a museum,” a senior official revealed.

He said, “The work will soon take up after the monsoon season. The beautification of Walled City markets will also be carried out under the project.”

As Jaipur has secured third position in the list of smart cities, the JSML has drafted a plan of Rs 2,400 crore to launch various projects under the smart city initiative. However, the JSML is also exploring and working on various revenue models to overcome financial deficit as it has Rs 1,000 crore in its coffers so far and efforts are being made to arrange remaining Rs 1,400 crore.

According to an official, the Centre will provide financial assistance of Rs 500 crore under the scheme. Whereas, Rs 200 crore will be provided by the state government for the same. Assistance of Rs 200 crore will be provided by Jaipur development Authority (JDA) and by Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) jointly.

In order to generate the revenues for smart city project, the possibilities are high of the state government introducing slew of taxes on common people. As per the official sources, it s expected that the cess could be imposed on purchase of goods and services in the state. The sources also indicated towards the increase of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) to 2%.
