Sweden keen to participate in Smart Cities Mission

Smart Cities MissionSweden wants to support sustainable and green friendly public transport solutions in India. It also wants to be a part of solid waste management initiative in Smart Cities.

For this,  Sweden’s Minister of European Union Affairs and Trade Ann Linde has suggested a Common Plan of Action through which Sweden’s expertise and technology can be used in various smart city programmes. She recently met Minister of Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi and held detailed discussions on possible areas of cooperation in Smart Cities.

Sweden is a global leader in waste management, urban mobility solutions, smart parking systems, air filtration, real time information systems, command and control systems etc, which are key areas for any Smart City.

A Swedish company SCANIA would soon be operating 55 ethanol based buses in Nagpur.

Naidu welcomed the Swedish offer particularly in the areas of public transport and solid waste management. He suggested to the visiting Minister to advise Swedish companies to reach out to respective cities for partnering in implementation of their smart city plans.

Both the countries have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2015 to promote sustainable urban development and Smart Cities Mission.
