
In a recent development, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, revealed that a substantial milestone has been reached under the Central government’s ambitious Smart Cities Mission. As per a written response provided during the ongoing winter session of the parliament, approximately 6,271 projects with a total value of Rs 1.16 lakh crore have been successfully implemented across the 100 selected cities as part of this mega-project.
Additionally, it was disclosed that work orders for an impressive 7,959 projects under the Smart Cities Mission, amounting to approximately Rs. 1.71 lakh crore, have been issued to date. Furthermore, the government has allocated a substantial amount of Rs 78,749.88 crore for the mission, of which Rs 71,135.70 crore has already been utilized for various projects and initiatives.
Apart from these achievements, the ministry has taken proactive steps to disseminate information about the mission’s progress. Numerous publications, newsletters, advisories, and documents focusing on the various projects under the Smart Cities Mission have been launched by the ministry. Additionally, the ministry regularly releases an “Ease of Living Index” to assess the outcomes of these initiatives, providing valuable insights into the quality of life in the designated cities.
