The Trichy Corporation has come up with 14 new proposals under the ambit of smart cities mission programme to improve the city’s basic infrastructure and develop recreational spots.
As part of these proposals, the corporation with the help of Southern Railway, plans to replace the century old Road Over Bridge (RoB) across the railway tracks on the Salai road with a new one.
The Civil work for all the 14 projects will be taken at an outlay of Rs 85 crore, given no legal hurdles crop up during the implementation.
The corporation has been facing criticism for not showing variety in the proposals. The civic body was also castigated for not bringing futuristic projects focusing on road development.
The proposals include a new bus stand at Srirangam, a smart road in Konakkarai as an alternative to the Karur bypass road a movie theater cum commercial complex in Thillai Nagar and a new road over bridge to replace the existing bridge on the Salai road across the railway track.
