Shimla tops NITI Aayog’s SDGs Urban Index

Shimla

NITI Aayog ranks Shimla, the summer capital of Himachal Pradesh, first under its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Urban Index. The Urban Development Minister of Himachal Pradesh Suresh Bhardwaj announced the achievement on November 24.

The index covered 56 parameters for measuring SDGs indicators including ending poverty, zero hunger, health and well-being, gender equality, quality education, etc. Considering the parameters, Shimla secured the top position with a score of 75.5 out of 100 for the current year.

As per the Minister, the statistical methodology used for preparing the SDGs Urban Index by NITI Aayog developed by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is a globally accepted methodology.

The index used a comprehensive list of 77 indicators covering 46 global SDG targets across 15 SDGs.

Apart from being at the top of the SDGs Urban Index, earlier this year, Shimla also secured the top spot under the Ease of Living Index and was named the “most liveable” across cities in the country. The Index encompassed four major parameters including sustainability, quality of life, economic ability, and citizen perception.
