Shillong forms SPV for Smart City projects

Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya has finally formed its Special Purpose Vehicle for the implementation of Smart City projects in the city.

Shillong is the 100th Smart City selected under the Smart Cities Mission. The State Government has prepared a budget of Rs 1,279 crore for various smart projects in the city. Out of this, Rs 1,272 has been marked for Area Based Development and Rs 7 crore has been kept aside for pan-city development.

Under ABD, projects like sewerage, sanitation, storm water drainage, water supply, solar energy, streetlighting will be taken up.

Under pan-city development smart transportation and solid waste management would be taken up.

The Central Government, under its Smart Cities Mission has selected 100 cities which would be developed as Smart Cities. The funding pattern for each city is 50:50 of centre and the State.

Shillong was the last city to be selected under the Mission.
