PM inaugurates Bogibeel bridge in Assam

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  dedicated the Bogibeel bridge in Assam, to the nation.

Spanning over the river Brahmaputra between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts of Assam, the bridge will help in boosting the economic growth of the region.

On this occasion, Modi also flagged off the first passenger train passing through the bridge.

Bogibeel bridgeWhile addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister also greeted the people on the occasion of Christmas. He said that today is the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and is also celebrated as “Sushaasan Divas” or “Good Governance Day”.

The 4.9 km-long bridge on the Brahmaputra river is Asia’s second longest rail-cum-road bridge. It has a serviceable period of 120 years.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied around 35400 metric tonnes of steel for the construction of Bogibeel Road-cum-Rail Bridge on the river Brahmaputra. This quantity is little more than 50% of the total quantity of steel supplied for the bridge.

The Prime Minister appreciated all those involved in the construction of the bridge.
