Ministry of Civil Aviation sanctions Rs 7,737 crore for Dholera and Hirasar airports

The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has sanctioned Rs 7,737 crore for the Dholera and Hirasar airport projects in Gujarat. The Dholera and Hirasar airports will be located in the vicinity of Ahmedabad and Rajkot respectively.

The ministry has sanctioned Rs 2,654 for the Hirasar airport and Rs 5,083 for Dholera airport. The Hirasar airport project has received the required clearances. The work on Dholera airport is expected to begin from 2020.

As per reports, the earlier sanctioned cost for the Hirasar and Dholera airports were Rs 1,405 crore and Rs 2,500 crore respectively. The ministry has increased the budget for both the airport projects.

Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, Airport Authority of India (AAI) has been quoted by a national daily as “Airstrip development work for the Hirasar airport has already started. Actual site work for the Dholera airport is scheduled to start in October 2020 and expected to be completed in four years. The airport in Rajkot is likely to be ready before the Dholera airport.”

Mohapatro also stated that for the Dholera airport project is a joint venture Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) between AAI and Gujarat government has been formed. The Hirasar airport is being developed by AAI with the support of the Gujarat government.
