FASTag to be mandatory from today midnight: MoRTH

In a significant move to digitisation, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has decided that all lanes in the fee plazas on National Highways shall be “FASTag lane of the fee plaza” with effect from February 15 midnight.

In a significant move to digitisation, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has decided that all lanes in the fee plazas on National Highways shall be “FASTag lane of the fee plaza” with effect from February 15 midnight. Following this, as per National Highways Fee Rules 2008, any vehicle not equipped with FASTag or vehicle without valid functional FASTag entering into the FASTag lane of the fee plaza is liable to pay double the fee applicable to that category.

In a significant move to digitisation, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has decided that all lanes in the fee plazas on National Highways shall be “FASTag lane of the fee plaza” with effect from February 15 midnight.According to a statement released by the Ministry on February 14, it has clarified that the move is with respect to further promotion of fee payment through digital mode, reduce waiting time and fuel consumption. Also, it will provide for a seamless passage through the fee plazas. Earier, MoRTH had mandated FASTag in M&N categories of motor vehicles i.e, for taxis, cargos, and other commercial vehicles having four wheels or more, with effect from January 1, 2021.
