The Centre has requested the state governments for creating an enabling environment to encourage use of electric vehicles.
“States are also being motivated for submitting pilot projects under FAME India scheme. Several states including Maharashtra, Karnataka etc. have submitted pilot projects,” G.M. Siddeshwara, Minister of State in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises said in Lok Sabha.
Some states including Maharashtra have extended concessional road Tax and VAT on electric vehicles. Government is pursuing with all the state Governments to extend concessional Road Tax and VAT on electric vehicles.
Government conducted a National Workshop on 8th April, 2015, where in state government representatives also attended. In this workshop, states were encouraged to take measures to promote electric/hybrid vehicles in the country by way of (i) creating an enabling environment, (ii) by creating charging infrastructure, (iii) by submitting pilot projects especially for public transport, (iv) by providing concession in Road Tax and VAT, (v) by making provisions for charging infrastructure in planning Permission and Building by-laws.
