Delhi’s 12 railway stations adapt cashless mode

In a move towards going cashless, 12 major railway stations of the Delhi division of the Northern Railway have introduced Point of sale (PoS) machines for the first time.

The Indian Railways is hopeful that these machines will increase payment options and support cashless economy. The initiative had been undertaken to raise payment options for passengers and support cashless economy.

A total of 32 machines have been installed at stations including at Anand Vihar terminal, Delhi Cantt, Delhi Serai Rohilla, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Shakurbasti, Old Delhi, Nangloi and New Delhi stations.

Railways plan to install PoS machines at general ticket counters in the coming months, a media report said recently. . The facility will also be extended for catering and parcel booking services. At present 43 catering stalls are using e-wallet payment options like Paytm.

“Passengers will not face the hassle of dealing with cash anymore,” the Times of India quoted Arun Arora, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi Division, Northern Railways, as saying.
