Delhi cabinet approves Rs 185 crore for child welfare schemes

In a significant move, the Government of Delhi approved funds worth Rs 185 crore for several child welfare schemes in the capital, on March 2. According to a statement issued by the Delhi government, the funds have been allocated for scholarships to SC/ST/OBC communities, the Ladli scheme, providing aid and equipment for children with special needs, and for upgrading library infrastructure in the Delhi government schools.

Arvind KejriwalAs per the government approval, as much as Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the Ladli scheme that aims to benefit school-going girls by promoting education among them, reduce their drop-out rate, and provide financial aid to their families. Besides this, the government has also kept a sum of Rs 75.98 crore for various pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes to benefit SC/ST/OBC students. Also, the schemes include merit-based scholarships for SC/ST/OBC/ and minority students from class 1 to 12. Additionally, the Delhi government has approved Rs 2 crore for children with special needs and children with disabilities.

According to the government, funds will be provided under the Talent Promotion scheme to the inclusive education branch of the directorate of education so that government schools can acquire all the required equipment and aids for talent development in children with special needs.
