Cyient to combat water and sewage issues in Varanasi

 Varanasi Smart CityWith the aim to improve the Geographical Information System and Management Information System, the Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) has authorised Cyient, a global provider of engineering, geospatial, networks, and operations management services.

The project serves the purpose to accomplish sustainable operation and nurturing of water supply and sewage assets of the Jal Kal Vibhag (JKV), VNN, and Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam’s (UPJN) Ganga Pollution Prevention Unit, which is designed to mend the water supply and sewage services for the people of Varanasi. The project meets the requirements as to developing strong asset management plan and decision support system for VNN and JKV.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Ganga Action Plan-II has monetarily backed the project. Basically, it is a Government of India initiative, spearheaded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Ministry of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD & GR). The project has a deadline of 12 months.  

Sunil Kumar Makkena, Senior Vice President, U&G, Cyient  said, “We are excited to work in coordination with Varanasi Nagar Nigam which will assist in the completion of GIS and MIS mapping of the city.”

In order to create a geo-referenced database of water and wastewater utility assets, and assemble consumer database and property enumeration, Cyient will initiate multiple field surveys. Also, it will utilize a proven GIS platform to develop the Web GIS applications, reports and dashboards.
