A Community Water System (CWS) has been inaugurated in Sangolikuppam village, Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. The CWS will provide safe drinking water and will also relieve villagers who are purchasing water cans at Rs 20-40 per day.
The Community Water System is a joint collaboration of Covestro India and Goodlife Trust. Water from CWS can be purchased at a cost of Rs 7 per 20 litres.
The plant, with a capacity of 1,000 litres per hour will serve the entire village. Waterlife India, which is the promoter of Goodlife Trust, will undertake operations and maintenance of the plants for a period of ten years to ensure that the program remains sustainable and the community continues to enjoy the benefits in the long-term.

The initiative is in line with the objective of Covestro to contribute to the UN SDG goals.
