Baldeo Purushartha, Municipal Commissioner (MC) of Chandigarh, along with other officers, met with the officials of Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) in Delhi on Wednesday to figure out the missing points in the new smart city proposal.

It has become a matter of prestige for the Chandigarh administration to get the smart city status for the city. They are working hard to develop the new proposal, to be sent by April 15, which appeals the Union ministry.

The discussion was regarding the smart city proposal with an aim to figure out the requirements in the new proposal, if any, that need to be cleared in time, the MC commissioner said.

The result of first phase of selection had disappointed the residents of the capital city as it couldn’t make to the top 20 smart cities list even after being assured, especially after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande.

After being pointed out a number of gaps in the previous proposal by the experts, it needs to be restructured completely such that it could appeal the ministry. It has also been asked to the people on observations to suggest fresh ideas by March 18 for the strengthening the proposal.

Chandigarh has been selected as one of the fast track cities for smart city mission under the MoUD.Chandigarh need to compete with 23 other cities now by improving the smart city proposal and becoming eligible for funding on accelerated basis in 2016-17.
