Gadkari launches special construction training programme in Tripura

Construction workers in North East India will be trained under a special training programme which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

The Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the training programme through a video link in New Delhi.

National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) is organising these training programmes at its project sites in the Tripura. National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is helping NHIDCL in this initiative.

This month, 40 trainees in two batches will be trained at ongoing projects in Agartala- Udaipur – Sabroom Section of NH-44 in the state of Tripura.

Over the course, 1,000 workmen will be trained in a phased manner in North Eastern states.

The main purpose of the programme is to provide training to the local youth so that they can become employable.

The Ministry of Road and Transport is  engaging more and more local contractors in the North East , as also other remote and not so developed areas, so that they can, in turn, engage the trained, local youth on the construction sites.

The central government has also started 71 drivers training schools to train people.
