Vadodra to be developed as manufacturing hub

As Vadodra has made it to the third list of the smart city project, the civic authorities have expressed hope that the city will be developed as an “innovative manufacturing hub” under the smart city mission.

Gujarati city of Vadodra also figured in the third list of smart cities announced by the Centre recently.  

Under smart city mission, the central government aims to develop 100 smart cities by 2022. So far, the list of 60 cities have been announced, 20 cities under this mission will be chosen in January and 13 will be chosen in May, 2017. The remaining will be selected by 2018.

“By introducing a smarter way of living and transforming itself into a cleaner and greener city, Vadodara aspires to become an innovative hub for manufacturing by leveraging its economic strength,” said Dr Vinod Rao, Vadodra’s Municipal Commissioner.

Final and upgraded Smart City Proposal (SCP) has been submitted to the Urban Development Ministry which has been developed keeping aforementioned objective in mind, he added.

Proposal was prepared on the basis of data collected on various important aspects such as sanitation including solid waste management, health and education, water supply, power supply, affordable housing, mobility and public transport, IT connectivity and digitisation.
