UP govt tells 10 smart cities to develop 5 model roads each

smart citiesThe Uttar Pradesh Government on Monday directed authorities of 10 cities selected under the Smart City Mission in the state to develop five model roads each as part of the plan to provide pedestrian facilities, public amenities and green cover along the roads.

As per the order issued by Principal Secretary (Urban Development) Manoj Kumar Singh, the model roads should have a mix of convenience and aesthetics. While the roads will have standard facilities for pedestrians, authorities will also ensure that there are no wires hanging overhead.

Also, initiatives for proper lighting to spruce up the roads will be undertaken. “Companies with high-level technical expertise will be selected by us to intervene in the work of model roads,” Singh said.

As per the order, the state government has made a provision of Rs 374 crore for Lucknow, Rs 216 crore each for Agra, Varanasi and Kanpur, Rs 40 crore for Jhansi, Rs 21 crore for Aligarh, Rs 19 crore each for Allahabad and Saharanpur, and Rs 2 crore each for  Moradabad and Bareilly to complete this project.
