Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, UP launched the app on May 8. The app has been developed by the UP government in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The move poses as an effective measure to benefit the migrant labourers who have lost their jobs due to the lockdown. Also, it will support the government to monitor and track the health of the huge number of workers entering the State borders. As of yet, 56 trains carrying 70,000 migrant labourers have already arrived and another 79 are expected to reach the State today, May 9.

“Pravasi Rahat Mitra” app will enable the government to know the status of COVID-19 screening, bank account number, educational qualification and other details related to work about the migrant workers placed in shelter homes and those who have reached their homes directly. It will also help in working out schemes for their welfare.

The CM, during a high-level meeting to review the status of the COVID situation and issue of migrant labourers, said that the list of returnees should be obtained from the states they have returned to crosscheck any unauthorised entry. Further, he said that all the migrant labourers should be treated with respect in the state.
