Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced a major cleanliness initiative at Yashwant Palace Market in Chanakyapuri, Delhi, ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2nd, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 initiative.
This drive continues the earlier commitments that the minister and the Ministry of Mines made as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign. This drive promises to beautify local community parks, conduct a one-month-long collection drive for electronic waste, and encourage local community participation through collective efforts, known as “Shramdaan,” to maintain a clean environment.
As of now, the initiative has successfully secured a budget of ₹500 Crore, with the objective of completing 10,000 sanitation projects across various urban areas by the end of the year 2026. The initiative has to date successfully finished 4,500 projects, which is equivalent to achieving 45% of its goal.
Positively, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has reported a major decrease in the amount of littering that occurred in Delhi, as well as a thirty per cent reduction in the amount of waste that has been disposed of in public areas. The event emphasised the significance of community participation in refraining from littering and recognised the contributions of those working in sanitation institutions.
