UD Ministry receives Puducherry as 1st Smart City nomination

smart city puducherryThe Union Territory of Puducherry is the first city to send its nomination to the Centre for inclusion in the 100 Smart Cities Mission launched on June 25.

According to report, Chief Secretary of Puducherry has forwarded the nomination along with all the forms and documents including the details of evaluation of all the five urban local bodies (ULBs) in the Union Territory as required in the Stage-1 of ‘City Challenge’ competition.

These ULBs include Puducherry, Oulgaret, Kariakal, Yanam and Mahe.

Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has reportedly complimented the Puducherry government for being the first to send Smart City nomination.

The Ministry of Urban Development has asked the State Governments to nominate by July 31. As per the Operational Guidelines for Smart Cities Mission, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, States have to nominate the assigned number of cities and towns from each State.
