Tripura seeks 90% central funding for smart city projects in N-E

TripuraDays after Himachal Pradesh sought 90 per cent central funding for Dharamshala smart city project, Tripura has also requested the Centre to go for 90:10 funding arrangement for all smart city projects in the Northeastern states.

The Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar met Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu to discuss the subject on the lines of Tripura being a feeble economy and accordingly asked for financial support.

The Centre allocates 50 per cent funds to all the states which have been identified as potential smart cities. But the same is not acceptable to Tripura.

Earlier, the sharing pattern for all Central Government sponsored schemes was 90:10 in North Eastern states, but the second NDA government had changed the pattern.

According to State Urban Development Minister Manik Dey, Naidu hasn’t given a positive response to the request.
