SmartCity Kochi set to open in January

Smart_CityThe first phase of SmartCity Kochi, a joint venture of Smart City Dubai and the Kerala Government, is ready for opening and is expected to take place in January.

The precise date of the opening will depend on the convenience of the Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who is also the Emir of Dubai. Once the first phase is opened, the built-up area of around 6.5 lakh square feet will be open for commercial utilisation. Moreover, nearly three-fourths of the space has already been taken by major companies in the IT and the ITEs sector.

Along with the opening of the first phase, work on the second phase aiming to build a much larger space than the first, will also start.

Jiji Thomson, State Chief Secretary, on Monday, reviewed the progress of the project as well as of infrastructure development.

Baju George, stand-in CEO of SmartCity Kochi, said, “The building is more or less complete and only finishing touches remained.”
