Smart Trivandrum card to be launched under Smart City mission

The Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) has announced that it will soon launch a multi-utility smart card under Smart City Mission and it will be named as Smart Trivandrum card.

P Bala Kiran, CEO, SCTL said “It is being devised as a one citizen card with multiple purposes. People can use it as a wallet through recharges. Various projects being implemented under the Smart City project in terms of civic infrastructure and urban transport can be availed using these smart cards.”

This Smart Trivandrum card is modeled on Oyster card which is used for payment for public transport in London.

Earlier, Kochi Metro Rail Limited had launched prepaid smart card Kochi-1 for metro travel but had later extended for use in private buses also.

As per the official, these Smart Trivandrum cards would initially be used for availing parking and transport facility, but later it would also be upgraded so to be used for payment of utility bills incorporating respective departments.
