Smart Cities Mission: Trichy expedites Smart City projects

Smart Cities MissionTrichy Municipal Corporation of Tamil Nadu has invited Request for Proposals (RFP) from consultants to take up Smart City projects in the city.

In the first phase, the Corporation will start working on six major projects. This include works in Chatram bus stand and Gandhi market.

There are also plans for the construction of smart roads, smart  parks and multi-level car parking.

Municipal Commissioner N Ravichandran has called for expression of interest (EOI) for the same.

Trichy has already formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called the Smart City Private Limited Company to expedite work on Smart City projects.

The corporation will focus on  sanitation, waste management, quality of life and affordable housing for the city residents under the guidance of SPV.

Trichy is one of the cities selected under the Smart Cities Mission of the central government.

It will receive Rs 1,000 crore from the centre.

The corporation has set a budget of Rs 1,271.04 crore.

A major chunk of the budget of Rs 1,137 crore will be spend on Area Based Development covering core city area of Rockfort, Thillai Nagar, Gandhi Market and Woraiyur.

For the effective transport solutions, the corporation has set aside a budgetnof  Rs 133.49 crore.
