Rs 2.03 lakh crores investment proposed and 948 projects under implementation for Smart Cities

Smart Cities MissionAddressing a CII conference, the minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri made public the report card as to Smart City Projects, which announced 91 cities incorporating special purpose vehicles out of 99 Smart Cities and 948 projects under implementation.     

The minister further revealed a data of total investment proposed in these projects as Rs 2.03 lakh crore. Also 994 lakh crore urban population will get strongly affected by it, he added.  

Under the Smart Cities Mission, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Nagpur, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Pune and Kakinada, have integrated command and control centres which are operational and will reproduce a good picture down the line. Work on other cities is also in progress but it will get accelerated soon.

Hardeep Singh Puri said, “Problems related to water and power supply, sanitation, traffic movement, integrated building management, city connectivity and internet infrastructure (data centre) under one roof, are the most common and will be controlled and monitored. There will not be any discrepancy and irregularities in functioning and an optimistic outcome will be generated.”

With the aim of enhance urban infrastructure via smart solution applications, and meeting all requirements of customers with decent quality, The Smart City Mission was launched on June 25, 2015.
