To hold summits, conventions and other types of large gatherings, Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to build a convention centre under the Smart City Mission. The centre will be constructed on the lines of Gandhi Nagar’s Mahatma Mandir along with a five-star hotel near it.

To be built at a cost of Rs 150 crore, which will be disbursed by the Central government, the convention centre will be spread over 40,000 sqm area. It will fall in the boundary of Raiya Smart City. Also, the State government has given its nod for the execution of the project.

The official designed will be finalised by this December, and subsequent to it tenders will be floated.

“The centre with the capacity to accommodate 6,000 people will lend support to businessmen from Saurashtra to conduct their business activities, seminars, meetings and functions,” Municipal Commissioner of Rajkot Banchha Nidhi Pani said.

“Also, space will be beneficial to many industries in Saurashtra. It will help them to boost their business at international levels by conducting meetings, discourses and interactive podiums,” Pani added.

All the decision regarding the project will be taken by Rajkot Smart City Development Ltd (RSCDL).
