The Punjab government has constituted a 14-member Sri Anandpur Sahib Urban Development Authority (SASUDA) to ensure a planned and holistic development of the holy city of Sri Anandpur Sahib.

An official spokesperson of the Punjab government said the Authority would be headed by the Chief Minister as its Chairman with Housing & Urban Development Minister as its Vice-Chairman.

The other members of the Committee would include; M.L.A Sri Anandpur Sahib, Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Finance, Secretary Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation, Secretary Public Works, Director Town and Country Planning, Chief Town Planner, Deputy Commissioner Roopnagar besides any other member/invitee to be nominated by government.

The Chief Administrator of SASUDA would be its Member Secretary.

The authority’s headquarters would be at SAS Nagar. All the powers and functions relating to the development and redevelopment of Sri Anandpur Sahib town under this Act shall be exercised by Sri Anandpur Sahib Development Authority (SASUDA).

It would go a long way in providing a workable framework of this historical place besides ensuring its comprehensive planned and integrated development in a meaningful and result oriented manner, the Spokesperson added.

As per the notification issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department on February 27, 2019 the boundaries of Sri Anandpur Sahib Urban Development Authority has been defined which consists of one town and 23 villages covering 5846 hectares (14440 Acres) area having population 27195 as per 2011 Census, under section-29 (1) of the “The Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 1995.”
